Lady Bird Lake is a lake that is located in downtown Austin that was formed by damming up the Colorado River. The lake is clean, beautiful and very conveniently located for Austin residents. The lake is extremely popular for jogging, biking, fishing, swimming and kayaking. Lady Bird Lake is a great asset to the Austin community.
The Lady Bird Hike and Bike Trail makes a complete 10 mile loop around Lady Bird Lake. The loop is great for jogging, walking and biking. Why get your exercise indoors on a treadmill or bike machine when you have the Lady Bird Hike and Bike Trail available to you?
Lady Bird Lake has some pretty good fishing for largemouth bass and catfish, and the lake is clean enough that you are allowed to take and eat fish that come from the lake (in the past you were not).
Lady Bird Lake is even home to a large colony of Mexican Freetail Bats which live beneath the Congress Avenue Bridge. Many people gather to watch the bats exit the bridge at dusk on spring and summer evenings.
Visiting Lady Bird Lake is a great way to spend a warm, sunny afternoon in the Austin area.
